SERIAN: A remarkable woman named Rose Nojek, 57, dedicates her life to caring for her 11-year-old grandson.
Living in a modest bamboo hut in Kpg Krumboi here, Rose’s resilience and resourcefulness shine through her everyday struggles.
Rose, a widow whose late husband served in the army, has been her grandson’s primary caregiver since his infancy.
Her daughter, a single mother working at a factory in Kuala Lumpur, faced the agonising decision to leave her child for better financial prospects.
“She had to leave her precious baby behind so that she can earn enough for their future,” said local NGO Hope Place in a statement.
Hope Place highlighted Rose’s industrious nature. She cultivates paddy, vegetables, and fruit trees around her home, supplementing her income by selling these products. Additionally, Rose’s talent in weaving crafts traditional baskets and ‘tikar’.
What’s more astounding is Rose’s handiwork in building her bamboo hut.
“Her resourcefulness surprised us even more when she told that she herself built her small bamboo hut with her own hands,” the NGO said.
The local community, including the village head, has rallied to support her. Recently, they facilitated the installation of electricity in her home, with plans to provide a water supply soon.
Hope Place extends its support by providing basic food supplies, a new electric kettle, a stove, and school supplies for her grandson.
