THE construction of the state’s coastal roads is expected to be completed on schedule, said Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi.
The construction of Sungai Krian Bridge in Betong is expected to end on Feb 24, 2022, followed by Batang Paloh Bridge in Mukah on April 9, 2023; Muara Lassa Bridge in Mukah (Feb 21, 2023); Batang Saribas in Betong (May 5, 2023); Jalan Pasi, Sarikei to Tanjung Manis, Mukah including Batang Rajang Bridge (Feb 21, 2023); and Bintulu-Jepak Bridge (Kuala Kemena-Jepak Bridge) (March 5, 2023).
The construction of Rambungan Bridge is scheduled to start next month while Batang Lupar Bridge is divided into two packages with the first (bridge package) to be tendered out this year end and the second (road package from both directions of Triso and Sebuyau) was offered to contractors on Oct 28.
“As for Igan Bridge, the detailed design is still being prepared,” he said.
“Three other projects which are currently in the preliminary design phase are the second road from Samarahan to Kuching (Jalan Tanjung Bako); the road from Sungai Limbang Bridge to Kampung
Pendam, Limbang and the road connecting Bako to Buntal including a bridge across Sungai Buntal.”
Julaihi disclosed these in response to a question from Yussibnosh Balo (GPS-Tellian).
Julaihi also noted that the upgrading of existing Sarawak coastal roads had been divided into Package A (13 sub-packages) and Package B (10 sub-packages) totalling 23 sub-packages.
“Sub-package A4 (a 9.6km boundary between Kampung Sungai Buluh to Sebuyau) was offered to a contractor while the remaining 12 sub-packages for Package A are being tendered out.
“Sub-package B1 (Tanjung Kidurong/Kuala Suai/Kuala Niah/Kuala Sibuti/Bakam Road encompassing 12.3km) has been offered to a contractor while the remaining nine sub-packages for Package B are still under site review and design phase,” he said.
On Yussibnosh’s inquiry on total packages and road length in Mukah, Julaihi continued, “Total packages for upgrade and repair works on roads in Mukah are eight packages which involve a total distance of 127.3KM.”
