GEDONG: The construction of a plantation road linking Kampung Gedong and Kampung Samalatong in Simunjan is already in progress.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has revealed that these spur routes will cover approximately 5.8km and will also connect the outskirt areas.

The connection of the villages like Kampung Batu Pengasah, Kampung Kepayang, and Kampung Lubok Punggor using the spur routes is a comprehensive development for the area.

This development will enable the Gedong District Council to provide efficient administration and services. Moreover, it will bring the area closer to places like Simunjan and Kota Samarahan.

Abang Johari made these remarks after attending Ibadah Korban at Masjid Gedong on June 30.

He also spoke about his recent trip to New Zealand and was glad to see the good relationship between the Muslim community and the government there.

In New Zealand, there is an international Islamic school whose syllabus is a combination of the national and Islamic curriculum.

The school is not only recognised by the New Zealand government but is also helping the Islamic community, even though they are a minority.

Abang Johari Tun Openg compared this to the Unit for Other Religion (UNIFOR) in Sarawak.

As the president of Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP), Abang Johari Tun Openg suggested that New Zealand be a hub to assist Muslim minority communities in the islands in the Pacific area. He emphasized the importance of Muslim communities embracing new knowledge and technology to ensure that they are equally developed and progressive as non-Muslim communities. He also called for Muslim communities to work together with non-Muslim communities to ensure that they are not left behind.
