KUCHING: Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (Bung Bratak) will open its doors once again this Saturday (Aug 15) as the Covid-19 pandemic is under control within the Kuching area.
“Weekend trekkers and visitors from Kuching or any other areas are welcomed to do their usual things this coming Saturday.
“Bung Bratak would like to apologise to hundreds of weekend trekkers and visitors for closing suddenly due to the covid-19 pandemic,” said Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHC) chairman Datuk Peter Minos in a statement on Sunday (Aug 9).
Trekkers and visitors are, however, reminded to strictly observe the recovery movement control order (RMCO) rules such as wearing face masks, social distancing, going for temperature checks and to filling in details such as phone numbers and names.
“Bung Bratak’s exco members met and decided on two key matters. One is repeating a request to the government to help supply electricity to the centre which currently depends on two generators. Another is asking the government for a proper road leading to the centre’s foothill instead of relying on a village road which passes through Kampung Tembawang Sauh, Bau.
“The two Public Works Department (JKR) supplied generators are pretty inconvenient as they are expensive to maintain and service while the normal electricity supply is very much preferred,” added Minos.
He also revealed that the 200-foot mountain waterfall near the BBHC (known by Bidayuhs as ribuan nowang) was now open to visitors and jungle-trekkers.
The waterfall is only 20 minutes’ walk from the centre through a path of very thick jungles and bamboos.
According to Minos, the waterfall is never short of water even in the dry season and it also believed to have curing powers for minor ailments.
