KUCHING: An elderly woman who has difficulty moving received a wheelchair donated by the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Kampung Paya Mebi Social and Welfare Bureau.
The assistance to S’mah Karim, 83, from Kampung Paya Mebi, was handed over by PBB Batu Kitang branch secretary Shamsudin Unai yesterday.
The wheelchair assistance is under the ‘Bantuan Kasih’ programme organised by the bureau in conjunction with the Aidiladha celebration. There was also a presentation of cash donations to the less fortunate.
According to Shamsudin, the aim of the programme is to instil the values of love, tolerance and a spirit of unity among the multi-racial community in Sarawak.
“We hope more will come forward to help ease the burden of the needy,” he said.
Since the programme’s inception in 2003, various contributions have been presented such as wheelchairs, school items, food and others.
