KUCHING: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) will continue to help the public who have problems but do not know how to solve them.
Its chief Wilfred Yap was recently approached by concerned residents staying at Kong Phin Road who were not satisfied with work on concrete drains at the place.
“One of the residents who spoke on behalf of others had requested for a proper inspection by officers from Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to ensure that the concrete used for the construction of the drains was in accordance with the specifications under the contract.
“The residents were also not happy with the workmanship of the construction works, he said in a statement today.
Following the complaint, Yap immediately brought up the matter to the attention of council.
“The officer from MPP who is in charge of the works has requested the contractor to jointly inspect and assess the situation.
“During the inspection, MPP instructed the contractor to conduct a ‘Coring Test’ on the concrete and the contractor also agreed to rectify their shoddy workmanship,” he said.
Yap, who is also SUPP Kota Sentosa chairman, said he viewed this matter seriously and will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the construction works carried out and completed in full compliance with the technical drawings and specifications under the contract for upgrading of drains works.
“SUPP PCB shall continue with the policy of ‘people above politics’ and serve as the eyes and ears of our community and will continue to highlight and try to resolve issues or problems of public interest affecting the public,” he said.
