KUCHING: A burglary suspect has admitted to his crimes upon being arrested by the police about 3.45am at Jalan Petanak today.

Acting Kuching Police Chief, Supt Merbin Lisa, said the suspect in his 30s liked to cycle at night to his targets, before he got caught by a team of constables from Padungan police station.

“A bag carried by the suspect contained various burglary tools. Among them were a wire cutter, screwdriver, spanners, screwdriver, flashlight and a small knife.

“The suspect also failed to provide reasonable explanation regarding the ownership of the bicycle that he was using when he was caught,” he said in a statement.

Merbin said the suspect was taken to the police station for initial interrogation during which he admitted that he had been involved in a housebreaking around Kuching that were reported last July.

“Further investigation also found the police had received a complaint from the public around July that a tuition school at Jalan Mendu was broken into.

“The suspect confessed to breaking into the office and efforts are being made to trace the items stolen by the suspect,” he said.

The suspect has been ordered to be remanded until Dec 7 for further investigation, and more detailed inquiries will be conducted to ascertain the suspects in property crimes, especially burglary around Kuching as well as to trace the remnants of the same criminal partners involved.

“The suspect also has previous criminal records and he tested positive for methampethamine.

“He also admitted committing burglary and theft for the purpose of finding easy money to buy drugs for his daily use,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment of up to 14 years and fine or whipping for the second and subsequent offenses.
