KUCHING: A female toddler and an elderly woman suffered injuries when their house in Kampung Sileng Melayu, Lundu caught fire yesterday.
According to a statement from the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) a distress call about the fire was received around 12.25pm.
Both victims suffered burns as they tried to escape from the blaze.
The toddler had burns on her face, arms and legs, while the elderly woman suffered burns to her face and left arm.
Five other individuals (a boy and four girls) who were also in the double-storey house when the fire started managed to escape safely.
The fire destroyed only the upper floor of the house.
Eight firefighters from Lundu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) together with the police and Civil Defence Force members responded to the fire. Their operation ended at 12.44pm and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
