BETONG: The burnt remains of a five-year-old boy were found in the aftermath of fire that razed a longhouse in Bukong Asal, Jalan Lidong Asal here.

The aftermath of the morning fire that claimed the life of a five-year-old boy and injured a mother and her daughter.

Firefighters from the Betong station found the remains in the kitchen area of the 11th bilik (unit) around 12pm on Monday (June 13).

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the boy had been identified as Rezdesson Carlos Robson.

In addition, a 25-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter suffered burns while escaping the fire. Both suffered 32 per cent burns (mother) and 44.5 per cent burns (daughter) on their bodies.

They were taken to Betong Hospital for immediate treatment.

The fire that razed the 11-unit Rh Polly Sulau happened around 9.20am, leaving a total of 59 residents homeless. The cause is still under investigation
