MUKAH: Four local men found themselves in hot water after being rounded up for their involvement in a cockfighting session on Thursday (Nov 14).
Acting on public tip-off and gathered intelligence, a police team raided a site believed to be turned into a cockfighting pit at Jalan Lama Selangau around 1.30 pm.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhammad Rizal Alias said that a group of 15 men, who were in the middle of the activity, were caught off guard by the sudden police presence.
“All of them scrambled into nearby bushes in a desperate bid to escape capture.
“However, four of them, aged between 21 and 31, were swiftly arrested while, the rest managed to flee.
“Also seized during the raid were two live roosters, three spurs, a weighing scale, a sum of cash and various betting equipment,” he said in a statement.
Preliminary urine tests found that three of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
All four suspects along with the seizures were taken to the police station for further action.
Rizal stated that the case is being investigated under Section 73 (g) of Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
