KUCHING: Local businessman Datuk Seri Dr Azman Samaon has threatened to take legal action against a federal minister for allegedly slandering him on social media early last month.
Azman who is a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) member, was referring to a message on the WhatsApp platform (party’s group chat) alleging him of involvement in drug trafficking, printing and distributing counterfeit money, forging government documents to obtain projects and conspiring with the Royal Malaysian Police to cover-up criminal activities.
According to him, the minister who is also a Bersatu member shared the message in WhatsApp.
The message went viral on social media platforms on Oct 4 which led him to lodge a police report at the Gita police station at 10.30am on the same day.
“The police and MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) will investigate the case,” he told a press conference yesterday.
He said that a defamation lawsuit will be filed against the federal minister and he was discussing the next course of action with his legal advisers.
Azman stressed that the matter had nothing to do with the party, as the dispute was between him and the minister.
He claimed that the messages (accusations) uploaded by the federal minister has tarnished his image as a party member and his credibility as a leader in 16 non-governmental organisations.
