KUCHING: Hock Seng Lee (HSL) will be organising a Cactus and Succulent Show at La Promenade Mall on April 15 to 30.

The event also includes a competition with cash prizes totalling RM5,000.

Members of the public are invited to join the contest and to sign up for booths to be leased for those interested.

Entry to the competition is free and each participant can submit five plants. The entries will also be on public display for two weeks.

HSL landscape department head Leslie Lim said that succulents are a popular plant to grow now.

Succulents and cactuses are becoming more popular as indoor decorations now.

“They have been popular in Kuching for a while already, but over the past one year due to people spending more time at home, it has become the ‘in thing’ to grow.

“Even in the office, my colleagues are decorating spaces with their succulents. Thus, this is a great time to host the competition,” he said.

Lim, who is also one of the judges for the competition, said that a 3,000 square feet space on the mall’s ground floor will be converted to host the show.

“Do come for the Succulent and Cactus Show at La Promenade, and enjoy the bonsai and Norfolk pine trees we have planted all around,” said Lim.
