LAWAS: The risk of fire, especially at home, can be reduced if society plays its role in ensuring fire safety at home.

Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, said that programmes such as the Fire Point & Public Safety Awareness are crucial for everyone since fires or disasters do not discriminate in choosing their victims.

“Fire is a disaster that can strike at any time, causing significant loss to property and human life.

“We bear a responsibility to safeguard ourselves, our families, and our communities from fire,” he said when officiating at the Bomba Komuniti, Fire Point & Public Safety Awareness program at Waterfront Kampung Dato, Kuala Lawas, here yesterday.

Awang Tengah added that the training and knowledge gained from the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) can be invaluable in the event of an emergency.

“I am grateful to the Bomba Sarawak for their attentiveness to this issue, and I hope programmes of this nature will be continued in the future.

“If we all take proactive steps towards ensuring fire safety at home, we can diminish the risk of fire and ensure the safety of ourselves, our families, and our communities,” he said.
