THE free bus services should not only go through the main roads but also to the outlying areas.
Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii pointed out that there is no doubt that the free bus services offer significant benefits to the rakyat and also encourage the public to adopt a greener mode of transportation to reduce carbon footprints, however, the implementation of the service needs to further maximise its effectiveness.
“We must establish a well-connected free feeder bus network that links residential areas to the main free bus routes.
“This will ensure that everyone throughout Miri has convenient access to the free public transportation system and encourage them to fully utilise the service.
“By implementing a comprehensive public transportation system that combines free main route buses with a feeder network, we can unlock the full potential of this initiative. It will not only reduce traffic congestion and aid the less fortunate, but also create a more vibrant and accessible Miri City for all residents and tourists alike,” he said.
Nevertheless, he welcomed the said initiative as it is a step towards a more modern, accessible, and sustainable public transportation system, which reduces carbon footprint that complies to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) goals.
