KUCHING: Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi emphasised the need for more inclusive banking facilities to make it easier for Person with Disabilities (OKU) to perform banking transactions.
He said there is a need to develop facilities with accessibility features, especially counter services that are easily accessible by the disabled.
“The main focus that needs to be implemented is facilities for the disabled to use wheelchairs and for the visually impaired who use canes for the blind,” he said.
He said this to reporters after officiating at the Opening Ceremony of the Training of Trainers Workshop (TOT) and Access Audit in the Built Environment at the Sarawak Islamic Complex, here, today.
In addition, he said public places such as all public premises and facilities are also urged to be easily accessible by wheelchairs.
Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman said the government would also focus on facilities for the elderly in the state.
He said it was because Sarawak will be the first state to achieve the status of an ageing state by 2028.
“We will improve facilities for the elderly such as handrails and seating facilities in public parks,” he explained.
