KUCHING: Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Michael Tiang has agreed that students and teachers should wear appropriate sports attire instead of school uniform during the current hot spell.
In stating this, he said that the decision made by the Education Ministry was a positive one and benefits the students and teachers to withstand the current heat wave.
He also urged the school parents and teachers to remind the students to drink plenty of water, take extra precautionary measures and avoid outdoor activities.
“If the conditions are unreasonable for them (students) to study under the heat wave, they should be advised to study under shelters or take a lot of water.
“One condition is to wear sportswear instead of school uniform, which is tight, hot, and not practical,” he said this when met by reporters at the Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) Educational Centre yesterday.
He also reminded parents and teachers to be mindful of the students’ well-being especially during the current heat wave.
Last May 3, the Education Ministry had agreed to allow students and teachers in all education institutions under its purview to be in casual wear and sports attire during the current hot weather.
Therefore, Tiang advised schools to inform the students to stay indoors, drink as much water as possible and avoid outdoor activities.
