Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii (BN-Repok) hoped the government could conduct a study on creating a Subsidised Industrial Zone in Sarikei to assist and encourage downstream and manufacturing industries in Sarikei.
Debating on the Supply (2019) Bill (2018) in the State Legislative Assembly here yesterday he said it would open up job opportunities to the local young people and at the same time uplifting the socio-economic level of the people in Sarikei.
Huang said many gardeners and farmers in Sarikei are small-scale and are still practising conventional farming.
“Agricultural products too are not at a satisfactory level. Hence, to assist the farming entrepreneurs to increase their income, it is really important that the government assist them whether it is in the aspect of technical advisory service, subsidy assistance and farm or garden road,” he said.
“As such, I urge the relevant agencies to come up with a master plan and strategies that are thorough to achieve the aspiration of the Sarawak government in making Sarikei as a food basket of Sarawak,” he said.
Huang thanked the Chief Minister forhis concern and interest for the people Sarawak in coming with biggest allocation ever for Sarawak when tabling the Budget 2019.
“The State Budget is development focused and rural-biased and definitely it will generally benefit the whole of Sarawak, particularly the people in the rural areas. I humbly hope more allocation be given for Repok area,” he said.
