THE Sarawak government has been urged to build a university in Bintulu that would allow local youth to pursue higher education and specialised courses locally.

Johnny Pang (GPS-Tanjong Batu) said that this would reduce the need for future students to move away from home to access quality education aligned with industry demands.

“Bintulu is rapidly becoming a major heavy industrial hub, particularly in oil and gas.

“Given the scale of its industrial and economic activities, it is essential that we establish a university to support the educational and industrial needs of our community.

“Additionally, there is a pressing need for an international school in Bintulu. As an oil and gas town with a growing international presence, an international school would cater to both local and expatriate families, enhancing our appeal as a vibrant, liveable industrial hub,” he said this when debating on the Supply Bill 2025, today (Nov 15).

Pang said that he would also support Bintulu’s growth by attracting skilled talent from abroad and improving the educational landscape for local children.

“An international school in Bintulu would not only benefit the families moving to the area but also provide a global standard of education to our local community.

“It would also support Bintulu’s growth by attracting skilled talent from abroad and improving the educational landscape for our own children.”
