With the increasing population and the need for better healthcare facilities, Kapit Hospital needs to be further upgraded, stresssed Bukit Goram Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

Debating on the Supply (2018) Bill, 2017, he said the hospital need to have a new clinical block for pharmacy, haemodialysis, specialist clinic, operation theatre, CSSU, paediatric ward, Male ward, physiotherapy and occupational therapy and store. Besides, he said the hospital also needs new quarters and barracks to cater for the accommodation needs of the staff.

In addition, he said, Kapit Hospital also needs more haemodialysis machines for the treatment of kidney patients in Kapit division.

Currently, according to him, the hospital has less than 10 haemodialysis machines for the treatment of the patients when debating on the State Budget 2018 in the State Legislative Assembly here yesterday. He said healthcare service is one of the most important basic needs of the people not only in the urban but also in the rural areas as well.

“The longhouse community residing along Sungai Belawai located on the opposite side of the Rejang River below Kapit town in Bukit Goram constituency comprising 15 longhouses, has a population of some 2,000 people and one primary school, SK Nanga Trusa.

“In case of emergency, the distance from Nanga Trusa to Kapit town covers a journey of two hours by longboat that could mean life and death for the patients. “In this respect, I would like to propose for the setting up of a rural clinic at Nanga Trusa, at the vicinity of SK Nanga Trusa at Sungai Belawai to cater for the healthcare and medical needs of the people in the area, “ he said.

Jamit also hoped and wished that more Rumah Mesra Rakyat and Rumah Mampu Milik will be built in Bukit Goram constituency. He also hoped the government could consider the setting up of Urban Transformation Centre in Kapit town. Jamit said majority of the people in his constituency are still lacking in terms of information communication technologies especiallyin the areas where there are low or almost no coverage for cellular phone services and Internet service.

Thus he called on the government to build more telecommunication towers so as to provide better and more telecommunication services in his constituency.
