Call for youth to be involved in entrepreneurship

KUCHING: The youth especially in public higher education institutions (IPTA) and private higher education institutions (IPTS) are urged to be involved in the field of entrepreneurship.

Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said they should participate in programmes that provide them exposure to doing business.

“This is because it will help them to open their own business that could provide employment opportunities to the community.

“We also hope that more youth will be involved or dabble in business after this,” he said at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Pocket Talk Entrepreneurs and Kitchen & Entrepreneur Youth programme at the Petra Jaya Festival Square, near here, today (19 Oct) .

The programme was attended by about 250 youth from MARA University of Technology (UiTM); University of Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas); Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs); Sarawak Kuching Polytechnic; i-CATS University College and Kota Samarahan Industrial Training Institute.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat said the programme also aimed at provide early exposure to youth in the field of entrepreneurship with motivational sessions from the agencies involved.

“We want many youths to be involved in business because this field is so broad and they can generate their own income later,” he said.
The programme was held in conjunction with the Sarawak State Youth Day Celebration (HPBNS) 2022.
