KUCHING: Sarawak’s very own Henry Golding is rumoured to replace Daniel Craig for the new James Bond film.
Tabloid news website TMZ reported that the Betong-born actor is among the shortlisted stars being considered for the role of the ultimate spy, James Bond.
The ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ star was at Los Angeles International Airport when TMZ asked him about his chances to play the iconic role in the 26th Bond film but Golding only grinned and did not disclose any information.
“I can’t possibly say (about the rumour),” he told TMZ.
Henry Golding is a British-Malaysian actor, model and television host. His mother is of Iban ancestry while his father is English. He is best known for his role in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ as Nick Young in 2018.
If the rumour is true, Golding would be making another breakthrough in his career after the success of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.
Coincidentally, Golding’s on-screen mother in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, Malaysian actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has also acted in a 1997 Bond film called ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ as Bond’s love interest.
This is not the first time the 32-year old-actor has been associated with the James Bond character.
In an episode of ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, Golding was present to promote ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ as well as to share his journey in the entertainment industry.
Amazed by Golding’s life journey, Fallon suggested that he should be the next James Bond.
“I’m telling you, this (‘Crazy Rich Asians’) is first. ‘James Bond’ is next,” Fallon exclaimed.
The 25th Bond film is expected to hit the screens on Feb 14, 2020 in the United Kingdom.
