KUCHING: Members of the public, specifically the Muslim community and Muslim non-governmental organisations (NGOs), are urged to contribute more to the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) Sarawak.

President of Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) Datuk Misnu Taha said this as the foundation of TH is for the Muslims to save their money not only for them to perform their pilgrimage but to assist those who need it.

“The saving quota in TH will be used to help contribute Muslim community wherever they are, in Sarawak or other states in Malaysia.

“Therefore, I would like to urge everyone including the Muslim NGOs to donate more to TH so that we can spread Islamic teaching all over Sarawak,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters during the handover ceremony of mobility vehicles and zakat business presentation at Raia Hotel and Convention here yesterday.

In the meantime, regional director of Sabah and Sarawak TH Datuk Nurlaila Said in her speech said that the mobility vehicles would be for Darul Halim Mosque, Sibu, Ar Rahmah Mosque, Sarikei and Muhammad Al Fateh Education Centre, Samarahan.

“We hope that the contribution of these vans will be fully utilised by the mosque authorities for the needs of the congregation and their daily activities, including funeral management, circle study programmes, preaching and invitation events for lectures and qasidah performances,” she said.

On the zakat business, she said TH has allocated a total of RM1.8 million as zakat payment to the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak for the financial year 2022.

“TH also hopes that this zakat payment can be utilised by the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak towards sustaining zakat programmes planned in the state for the economic well-being of the asnaf group.

“In addition to zakat payments, TH also implements a Zakat corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, providing direct contributions to selected asnaf groups through the organisation of education, community, health, and entrepreneurial programmes.

“InshaAllah, TH will strive to implement zakat CSR programmes like this every year and ensure that the target groups benefit from all the programmes conducted,” she added.
