MUKAH: All layers of society in Sarawak need to collectively act to eradicate vandalism, especially those involving public utility facilities in their respective areas.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the people should utilise the utility facilities being provided responsibly.

“The Sarawak government always prioritises the people’s access to public facilities and comprehensive utility services.

“However, the prevalence of vandalism worsens its implementation when there are individuals who steal and destroy these facilities.

“Due to this irresponsible behavior, it is not only a loss to the government but also the people themselves,” he told Suara Sarawak.

In line with this, Yakub advised the public to always appreciate the facilities provided by the government.

Additionally, he called on everyone to collectively stop vandalism activities, particularly those involving utility facilities.

Earlier, he praised the 2024 Sarawak Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications Campaign Against Vandalism on Utility and Telecommunication Facilities, officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He stated that this programme is a step towards raising awareness among the people that the government takes vandalism related to utility and telecommunication facilities in Sarawak seriously.

Therefore, he hopes that the public becomes aware of this issue and cooperates in stopping vandalism activities.
