KUCHING: Youth programmes should be held annually for the benefit of the youths,” said Mohammed Nur Iman, a 17-year-old participant and runner-up of Sarawak Youth Run 2019.
According to him, youth programmes can keep them from getting involved in undesirable activities.
“I hope the youth programmes would not only include marathons but also other activities such as e-sports and fishing,” he said.
Meanwhile, another participant Mohamad DzulIkram, 18, said that he believed such youth programmes could also nurture and strengthen the spirit of unity among the various races in the state.
Dzullkram added that such programmes could also fill the leisure time as well as encourage the spirit of sportsmanship among the youth.
Another participant Mior Mohd Afiq, 19, said programmes such as gotong-royong, e-sports, and arts should be held more often because they can give positive impacts on the youths.
“Besides, these programmes can help to foster ties and teamwork among the youths,” Mior said.
He continued, “Youth programmes should be held every year and the government should increase the number of such programmes to attract the youth’s participation.”
Sarawak Youth Run 2019 is an annual event organised by the Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry which aims to nurture a healthy lifestyle and morale development.
