MATU: Dried shrimps locally known as ‘sesar unjur’ have become as one of the most sought after products here.
Hence, for any festival held here, it would be incomplete if ‘sesar unjur’ were not among the local delicacies being served or put up for sale.
Among the villages in this district that is famous for ‘sesar unjur’ is Kampung Kuala Hilir.
This local delicacy is sold for around RM90 per kilogramme.
Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Abu Seman Jahwie is among local leaders who has a special admiration for ‘sesar unjur’ and hoped that the locals would take the production of ‘sesar unjur,’ which is one of the oldest economic activities in the district, seriously.
He considered it as a potential income generating activity which should be intensified as it would not only become a source of income for the locals but an economic activity for the district.
Other areas in the state famous for ‘sesar unjur’ are Belawai and Kuala Rejang because salt water shrimps are plentiful there.
