DEBAK: The Federal government needs to look at increasing the number of public service members in the three main sectors, namely education, health and enforcement.

Deputy Community Welfare Minister Mohammad Razi Sitam said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Budget 2023 to be presented this Friday is expected to consider increasing the number of civil servants.

“I am speaking based on the needs of having public servants in Sarawak in the Federal Department and among sectors that require increased staffing are education, health and enforcement.

“I believe the increase will help to give better government’s service to the people,” he said in response to a question about the Federal Government’s 2023 Budget expectations here, yesterday.

In education, for example, Razi explained, it can certainly be improved by adding the number and positions of teachers.

“The same goes for health. An increase in doctors, nurses or positions that will launch business in the main sector will certainly be better for the service.

“This will be able to overcome the problem of unemployment after the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

Like other representatives, the Saribas assemblyman still hopes that the Unity Government with the slogan Madani Malaysia can provide more allocations for the development of infrastructure facilities in rural Sarawak.

“And, the allocation should be managed by the Sarawak government.

“On the whole, I and all the people in this region are expected to receive good news this Friday, including the much-awaited cash assistance in a situation where many people are still affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.
