THE Sarawak government has been urged to lower the threshold to include M40 and B40 students so they can benefit from the free laptop and “pocket money” programme by the state government.
Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing (GPS-Meradong) said it would be better if the state can give across the board, especially with the state’s revenue rising every year.
“For the free laptop and ‘pocket money’ programme, I am of the opinion that the threshold for qualifying for assistance of no more than RM1,500 per capita is too high.
“This is especially relevant since the federal government plans to increase the minimum wage from RM1,500 to RM1,700 next year,” he said during his debate in support of the Supply Bill 2025 today (Nov 14).
Ding further said that the current threshold might deprive deserving cases of receiving assistance.
