KUCHING: Hari Gawai Dayak must be preserved to strengthen racial harmony in Sarawak, said Datuk Wee Hong Seng, the Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

He made the call yesterday during the MBKS Gawai Dayak with Community 2022 event at the lobby of MBKS..

“Since Kuching is the City of Unity, we must consider each festive celebration of communities in Kuching and in Sarawak as an occasion to strengthen our unique cultures and, at the same time, learn and celebrate the cultures of other ethnicities.

“As we celebrate Hari Gawai Dayak, we must also regard the celebration as not only a special occasion for the Dayak community but as an opportunity to meet and appreciate a culture that may be different from our own,” Wee said.

In conjunction with this event, 170 gifts were distributed to the residents living in all the villages under the jurisdiction of MBKS.
