KUCHING: Takaful service providers are urged to consider offering special insurance to students, especially at the university level.
Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam said this is important to provide protection because these groups of people are also involved in outdoor activities or risk groups.
“Therefore, it is time for takaful service providers to consider offering special insurance for university students.
“It can also be offered with packages and special or low rates, to make it easier for this group to get insurance,” he said when officiating at the Takaful In Campus Programme 2023 at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) here on Tuesday (Oct 17).
He commended the organisation of the programme which has been able to provide in-depth information on financial management.
“This is a very good programme, and helps at the right age to ensure that they have good financial management in the future,” he said.
He believed the programme could achieve its objectives, especially in providing good exposure regarding financial literacy.
Meanwhile, the programme organised in conjunction with Financial Literacy Month also witnessed several groups of students presenting their respective projects during the ‘Shark Tank Pitch 5’ session.
The student group with the Takaful Apps project titled ‘TaPPS’ came out top and brought home cash prize amounting to RM1,000; the runner-up brought home RM700 in cash for their project titled ‘PROSETup’; and the third placing took home RM500 with their project titled ‘CYBERsheild Takaful’.
Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) in collaboration with UNIMAS and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Kota Samarahan Campus organised the Takaful in Campus programme.
The programme also aimed at providing information on financial concepts to help the public manage their finances more effectively and as a platform for students and industry to exchange views, knowledge including other information related to financial literacy.
