KAPIT: The people of Belaga district are calling for the urgent repair of the 37-Km Belaga-Bakun Road from Belaga town to the junction of the Bakun-Bintulu Road.
A road user identified as Neo Kek Seng (Ah Seng) said the poor road condition has caused ambulances or 4WD vehicles bringing patients to Bintulu Hospital to slow down.
“It normally takes an hour to travel the 37 Km- Belaga-Bakun Road but due to bad road condition, the journey now takes almost two hours. For emergency cases even a few minutes count,” said Ah Seng.
On behalf of the people in Belaga and the road users in general he called on the relevant authority to repair the damaged stretches of the Belaga-Bakun Road urgently.
The construction of the Belaga-Bakun Road which was described by some as a ‘roller coaster road’ was undertaken by the army through its ‘Jiwa Murni’ programme. Since its construction a few years ago, several stretches of the road have been affected by landslides.
The Belaga-Bakun Road is the main gateway from Belaga to Bintulu town and other major towns in the state.
