SPAOH: Community leaders must not hesitate to report any hanky-panky goings-on in the implementation of development projects in their areas.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said they should do so immediately if they felt the implementation was weak or not done according to specifications.

He said this when officiating at an integrity (Jelajah Integriti) programme for 300 participants at the Spaoh sub-district hall here recently

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity And Ombudsman) Datuk Dr. Juanda Jaya and Betong MP Dr. Richard Rapu were also present at the function.

“If you feel that something is not proper, please lodge a complaint to us your elected representatives, the Public Works Department (JKR) and other relevant authorities. This is necessary to ensure all projects are done based on specifications and according to schedule.

“In my capacity as the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development too, it is my hope that there will be no more sick or delayed projects.

“The government after all wants the people to enjoy what have been promised to them,” he said.

Uggah added that he advised them to get the BQ (Bill of Qualities) from the implementing authorities so that they knew the actual specifications and other details pertaining to the projects.

On the community leaders themselves, he said they should always have high moral value, keeping to their words and be role models especially to the youth.

“We do not want a situation where your integrity is questioned by your followers. At the same time, we do not want the rights of our people to be taken lightly by those with their own agendas.

Meanwhile Uggah also expressed his concern with the high incidences of drug abuse and online gambling problems here.

“These problems have surfaced here for quite a while and yet to be eradicated. If left unchecked, they can become a big social issue.
