KUCHING: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) Sarawak has recommended that the new salary scheme for civil servants be reviewed every five years based on the government’s financial income.
Its chairman, Jubilee Jineh, said that this proposal is seen as a proactive step to maintain fairness in the wage structure and provide incentives to civil servants.
“With good income for every household of civil servants, it is expected to lead to a more comfortable life, encouraging civil servants to give their best contributions.
“I believe with increased productivity and maintained integrity levels, this brings a positive step in efforts to develop Malaysia,” he said when contacted today.
He said this in response to the unity government’s move to expedite the implementation of a more fair and reasonable wage scheme for civil servants.
Therefore, according to Jubilee, this step also reflects the government’s commitment to safeguard the welfare of civil servants.
“In this context, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has previously stated his intention to introduce a fair and reasonable wage scheme by the end of this year, promising sincere efforts to expedite it.
“This step has been well-received by various parties and is considered a positive action to improve the welfare of civil servants,” he said.
At the same time, he also urged the government to pay attention to the housing issue of civil servants, especially those classified in the B40 category.
He believed that the government should provide affordable housing specifically for civil servants in this category, as a concrete step to help them own their own homes.
In this regard, according to Jubilee, with better salaries and initiatives such as affordable housing, it is hoped that the cost of living burden for civil servants can be alleviated, having a positive impact on their overall lives.
