WONG King Wei (IND-Padungan) has appealed to the state government to fully subsidise the fees related to Covid-19 testing, screening and the 14-day quarantine for police officers and other federal civil servants serving in Sarawak.

He said he had received feedback from police officers from West Malaysia who had to bear the costs of Covid-19 screening and mandatory 14-day quarantine themselves.

“I have received feedback from PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) that police officers who are serving in Sarawak — some of them are from Sarawak and some of them are from West Malaysia — have to go through the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) including the 14-day quarantine and swab tests.

“But they are not fully subsidised and this benefit is only provided to all Sarawakians,” Wong said when debating on the Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease, 2019 (Covid-19) Bill, 2020 which was tabled at the DUN sitting on Monday (Nov 9).

He pointed out that the police officers and federal civil servants had come not for other businesses but to serve Sarawak.
