KUCHING: Get ready for Kuching’s very first Busking Festival (KBF), happening from September 15 to 17.
With the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports, along with companies like Sarawak Energy Berhad and community groups like the Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City, this festival draws inspiration from the well-known Tamworth Country Music Festival.
In a statement yesterday, artists from different fields like singers, dancers, speakers, storytellers are invited to join the event.
Registration is free using the link provided at https://linktr.ee/kbfest.
The festival has two categories: Category A is for singers and musicians, while Category B is for dancers, artists, actors, storytellers, and other talented artists.
Cash prizes await the winners in each category. The top three finalists will get RM 2000, RM 1500, and RM 1000 respectively.
There’s also a special “People’s Choice” category with a RM 500 cash prize for the winner.
According to the organiser Festival Management, the goal of the festival is to give buskers a chance to show their skills and boost their careers.
This event will add to the liveliness of the state capital and become an important part of the tourism calendar.
While the festival is open to all sorts of artistic performances, there are some rules. Buskers should avoid talking about politics, race, religion, and sex. Also, everyone taking part should follow local rules and dress appropriately. Nudity is strictly not allowed.
The festival starts with performances on September 15 and 16 at the Merdeka Plaza, Carpenter Street, and Main Bazaar areas, starting at 6.00 pm.
The grand finals will be on September 17, also at the Merdeka Plaza, starting at 7.30 pm.
