KUCHING: The Teluwaih Jinih, a beauty pageant contest held annually in conjunction with the Kaul Mukah Festival, will take place in April this year and will be hosted by the Sri Ritma Mukah Borneo Cultural and Arts Association.
The final round will be held from 8pm to 11.30pm (April 18) at the festival’s main stage.
Sri Ritma Borneo chairman Sykekumeto Smith said the contest is open to those of the Melanau race (pure or mixed), from or outside Mukah.
He said participants must be single, female, and ages between 17 and 35 with a height of 154cm and above.
“The concept of the competition will be Melanau traditional dress, Melanau contemporary clothing or gown,” he said, adding that the contestants will need to prepare the dresses themselves.
He said all participants must submit a 4R size photo of themselves, as well as a copy of their birth certificate and identification card (IC) which will be attached to the entry form. Entry fee is RM50 and will not be refunded.
“The contestant must be present on the day before the actual event which is on April 15 (Wednesday) at 2pm to 5pm at Kingwood Hotel, Mukah for briefing and to get their contesting number,” Sykekumeto said, adding that a catwalk will take place at the main stage on April 16 from 8am to 11.30am, followed by the announcement of the Miss Photogenic title (April 17, 8am to 11.30am).
“Transportation, accommodation and food are at the expense of the participants, including makeup, clothing, shoes and props required for the contest,” he continued.
He also urged the contestants to wear white T-shirt and suitable long trousers which will be used during the photography session.
“We wish to also inform that the organising committee shall not be held responsible in the event of any accident before, during and after the competition,” he said.
He further said that only five finalists will be selected and go through the final round on April 18, and to those who did not make it, they are required to attend the finals as well.
