KUCHING: Sarawak is urged to participate in all six World Health Organisation (WHO) strategic objectives activities.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said Sarawak must grab the opportunities by participating in it for the state’s nation-building process.
“During our working visit to WHO here in Geneva, Switzerland, it was more than just a very informative exchange.
“It actually went 45 minutes overtime, in which the host said it was rare to see such an engaging group from member nation states! And I told my delegation, we must grab the opportunities for Sarawak’s nation-building,” he said on his Facebook’s page post on Friday.
Thus, Dr Sim said in particular for Sarawak to participate in WHO’s Advancing health equity and health systems resilience in a turbulent world: a global health agenda for 2025-2028, Sarawak should participate in all six WHO strategic objectives activities.
“The activities are to promote health which is response to climate change, an escalating health threat in the 21st century and address health determinants and the root causes of ill health in key policies across sectors.
“Next is to provide health which Sarawak must advance the primary health care approach and essential health system capacities for universal health coverage and improve health service coverage and financial protection to address inequity and gender inequalities.
“And lastly, to protect health which we must prevent, mitigate and prepare for risks to health from all hazards and rapidly detect and sustain an effective response to all health emergencies,” Dr Sim explained.
