KUCHING: A 24-year-old man accused of job scam in Cambodia pleaded not guilty in the Kuching Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The accused, who was unrepresented, appeared before Judge Jeffrey Faelly Lanjungan.
Faelly allowed the accused bail of RM10,000 with two sureties.
He also ordered the accused to surrender his passport pending disposal of the case.
The accused was charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code for cheating.
If convicted, the accused can be jailed for five years or fined or both.
According to the facts of the case, the accused offered two persons jobs as cooks in Cambodia last October.
The mention of the case is set on March 23.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Commercial Crimes Investigation Department chief Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah in a statement said the charge was a first for the case.
“The accused was one of the Malaysians who were brought back to Kuching on Feb 17.
“We have seven more investigation papers on several suspects and will be notified of their status in the near future,” he said.
Supt Mustafa said his side was still looking for a 26-year-old suspect.
