SIMANGGANG: A total of 57,000 women are targeted to benefit from the Women’s Reproductive Cancer Awareness Campaign (WCaRe) as a new initiative of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) this year to increase awareness of early cancer screening.
Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said this year the government allocated RM11.5mil with a target of 57,000 eligible women who will benefit from this campaign.
“KPWKM is very concerned about women, especially in terms of health.
“This is because in Malaysia, breast cancer is the main cancer that attacks women and the cause of death. Meanwhile, cervical cancer is the third highest cancer that occurs among Malaysian women.
“Thus, to increase awareness of early cancer screening among women, KPWKM through the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) implemented the WCaRe Campaign in an effort to promote the Mammogram Test Subsidy Programme and the Cervical Cancer Screening Program (HPV DNA Test),” she said.
She said this while inaugurating @KWKPM’s Dynamic Women Programme at the Sri Aman Lecture Hall, yesterday.
She explained that the effort is to ensure that women can be empowered holistically.
“Regular health checks, especially for women through reproductive cancer screening, are necessary to ensure their health is always at its best and dynamic, further supporting the Strategy of Building a Prosperous Malaysian Family.
“Today (yesterday) is one of the changes we are bringing in the Dynamic Women Programme @KWKPM (formerly known as the Bangkit Women Programme @KWKPM).
“We bring the issue of health as an important investment to live a better life, further saving for the country.
“God willing, we will bring new changes from time to time,” she said.
The programme, which is filled with five beneficial sharing slots, was attended by 450 women from the Batang Lupar, Sri Aman and Lubok Antu Parliaments.
“I hope that women take the opportunity of the Wanita Dinamik @KPWKM initiative because it is the best platform to raise the great role of women in contributing to the national economy.
“I am confident that this programme will help women to get out of the shackles of hardship and become dynamic women and then be able to help other women in providing job opportunities, wages and small business support,” she added.
Sri Aman MP Doris Sophia Brodie, Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor and LPPKN chairman Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim were also present.
