FIREMEN trying to extricate the victims from the car wreckage.

SRI AMAN: A car driver and a passenger died on the spot while three others sustained only minor injuries after the Perodua Axia car they were travelling in skidded before it rammed a telephone pole at KM31, Jalan Sri Aman-Serian early yesterday morning.

The two deceased have been identified as Sultan Untang, 43, of Kampung Jungkal, Betong, the car driver and Romualdo Alim,18, of Kampung Sungai Besai, Pantu. A spokesman for Sri Aman fire station said they received a call relating to the accident around 7.15am.

“A fire engine with seven personnel and an ambulance were immediately dispatched to the scene near Lachau Bazaar and arrive there in 27 minutes. “The accident involved a Perodua Axia car which skidded before it rammed a telephone pole and landed on its side.

“One of the two deceased was pinned down by the front door while the other was trapped inside the car. Upon arrival at the scene the firemen immediately tried to stablise the vehicle in order to extricate the victims.

“We took about 18 minutes to get the victims out of the car while the two seriously injured driver and passenger were pronounced dead by paramedics. “The two deceased were later surrendered to the police for their further action,” he said.
