Car thief sentenced to eight months

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to eight months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court on Friday (July 26) for possessing a stolen sedan.

Norshahrizan , 39, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi which carries a penalty of up to five years imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

The arrest occurred around 7 am at Jalan Pending, where Norshahrizan was found with the stolen vehicle.
The car had been reported stolen by a 23-year-old woman at 11.58 am on July 14, shortly after she parked it outside a building at Jalan Haji Taha.

Items stolen along with the vehicle included an identification card, RM200 in cash, an ATM card, spare car keys, and car insurance documents, with the total estimated loss valued at approximately RM40,000.

On July 26, police apprehended Norshahrizan at Jalan Pending, suspecting his involvement in the theft.
During the investigation, the complainant identified her car and police confirmed the engine chassis number matched that of the complainant’s vehicle.

She also recognised personal items such as sunglasses and a lunch box inside the car’s bonnet.
The case was prosecuted by ASP Arman Ibrahim, with Norshahrizan was unrepresented.
