KUCHING: A mini carnival themed “Statistics: The Pulse of Life” took place yesterday, to highlight the role of statistics in daily life and celebrating statisticians in Malaysia.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) Sarawak organised the event, which attracted over 250 attendees, including officials from government departments, representatives from public universities, and members of the public.

The carnival offered a variety of activities including a Yasin reading ceremony, a quiz in honour of National Statistics Day, an exhibition displaying the department’s contributions, and a literacy session.

Currently, DOSM Sarawak is collecting data from 84,366 businesses and non-profit entities in Sarawak for the Economic Census 2023 (EC 2023), referencing the year 2022.

In anticipation of the Agriculture Census 2024 (AC 2024) slated to start on July 7 next year, DOSM Sarawak is updating its methodologies. This particular census will target households and organisations engaged in agricultural activities.

Additionally, DOSM has launched OpenDOSM NextGen, a platform equipped with diverse datasets and visual aids, simplifying data analysis for users. Accessible at https://open.dosm.gov.my, this platform promotes transparent and easy access to data for all interested parties.
