Carnival gathers 150 micro welfare entrepreneurs

MIRI: A total 150 micro welfare entrepreneurs from across the State gathered at Permymall Miri for four consecutive days since October 25, promoting their products under the “WellBest” brand during the Micro Welfare Entrepreneurship programnme.

Various products, ranging from food items, beverages, handicrafts, agriculture produce, spa services and many more were being displayed during the carnival. Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah was present to launch the programme yesterday morning.

Fatimah in her opening remarks disclosed, “WellBest” is a new approach and platform made by the State government to help promoting micro entrepreneurs’ products, hence would render much help in lifting them out of poverty.

This year, the four-day carnival was targeting sales amounting to RM600,000. Since 2009 until August this year, a total 2,730 recipients (micro entrepreneurs) have received grants from the State government.

“From 2013 until August 2018, we have 343 recipients (micro entrepreneurs) who have managed to achieve montly income above RM1,000, meaning, that the programme (the Micro Welfare Entrepreneurship programnme) has managed to help boost up their income and they become less dependent on the Welfare monthly assistance,” said Fatimah.

Also present to accompany Fatimah yesterday was Assistant Minister for Women, Family and Childhood Development, Rosey Yunus.
