KUCHING: The first edition of Mini Rural Entrepreneurs Carnival (KUD) in Kota Samarahan has concluded with sales transactions totalling RM1.25 million over its four-day span, far surpassing the initial sales target of RM300,000.
Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said the carnival had exceeded its goals with RM611,253.50 in direct sales and RM637,000 from business matching sessions.
Rubiah also highlighted the carnival’s impressive turnout, with 68,000 visitors compared to the anticipated 30,000, reflecting the community’s strong support and interest.
“The Mini KUD@Kota Samarahan has received an overwhelming response from the local community and entrepreneurs alike,” she said in a statement.
The event aimed to empower local entrepreneurs by showcasing their products and introducing them to more organised and profitable business models.
“The carnival serves as a platform for exposing locals to the world of entrepreneurship, which can evolve into a profitable career.
“When entrepreneurs succeed, it’s not just their sales that grow; they also create employment opportunities for the community,” Rubiah added.
Over 100 entrepreneurs from across Sarawak participated, showcasing a wide range of products from food and beverages to handicrafts and agricultural goods.
The carnival, which started on Feb 1, also featured a major lucky draw, awarding a Honda Dash 125 motorcycle to Muzaidi Mahrop, a 28-year-old from Mukah.
Also present was KKDW deputy chief secretary Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan.
