KUCHING: High integrity and accountability in a civil servant is very important to ensure the government’s vision and mission is achieved and implemented successfully.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya called on all civil servants to therefore carry out their duties with integrity and sincerity.
“If we perform our duties by neglecting integrity and without accountability, we will not only be questioned in this world but will also be held accountable in the afterworld,” he said at the closing of the Integrity Sustainability Seminar (SKI) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching yesterday ( July 19).
“Therefore, let us reflect on ourselves by cultivating and increase our accountability and integrity,” he said.
Civil servants must be resilient, flexible, agile and innovative, he said, adding these attributes must be complemented by a high value of integrity.
“We must also be citizen-centric and realistic-minded civil servants and always ready to solve various problems across ministries and agencies for the welfare of the people.
“Thus, this practice will be able to increase the added value and productivity of public services and increase the trust of the people,” he added.
He pointed out that a good public sector governance system and a quality work culture are the mainstays in increasing the people’s confidence in the government’s ability to implement the mandated policies.
