KUCHING: Two drivers and their passengers narrowly escaped fiery deaths when their vehicles burst into flames in separate incidents.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received emergency calls regarding the fires at 9pm in Selangau and 2.25 am in Kuching.
In the first incident, firefighters from the Selangau station responded to a Proton Saga fire near the Stapang junction along the Pan Borneo Highway.
The team arrived to find the car fully engulfed in flames and extinguished the fire using water from their fire truck.
Fortunately, the driver and passengers — whose identities remain unknown — escaped unharmed.
Hours later in Kuching, firefighters from the Siburan station responded to a vehicle fire involving a Honda City at Mile 8½, Jalan Penrissen.
By the time they arrived, the car had been destroyed. Fortunately, the driver escaped uninjured. The team extinguished the flames using water from their fire truck.
The causes of both fires and the extent of the losses are currently under investigation.
