KUCHING: The Sarawak government is making the right move by providing cash assistance through the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 6.0 financial package.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said everybody is having difficulties, and the cash assistance can help those that are affected the most by the pandemic.

“They have experienced loss of household income or no income at all, experiencing anxiety and worry about food for the family, and the bills that need to be paid.

“Our B40 hawkers, petty traders, the poor in our society, specifically the people in general, in difficult times such as this must be assisted,” she said yesterday.

She said that the assistance from the government will help to address their hardships, provide them a breather and most importantly reduce the level of mental stress as well as anxiety.

Fatimah added those in the frontline would also be assisted as stated in the BKSS 6.0.

“The health workers, enforcement personnel have worked long hours, sacrificed family time; exposed themselves to health risk to mitigate and contain the spread of Covid-19 and to save our lives.

“The media are also recognised for their high risk work in disseminating current and correct info to the public with regards to Covid-19.

“And a number of others also provide a very important safety net for wellbeing of the target group, for instance, the district and divisional welfare staff who had been entrusted to provide cooked food at quarantine centres, PKRC as well as personnel on duty at roadblocks, sending food baskets at lockdown longhouses and recently to those under home quarantine,” she said.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on May 28 announced the BKSS 6.0 worth RM1.4 billion to help Sarawakians during the two-week MCO which runs until June 11 to curb the spread of Covid-19.
