KUCHING: The Sarawak government is actively promoting the state’s tourism industry and supporting the private sector in promoting tourism-related activities.
In stating this, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting said the Ministry will thus give its utmost support to make the ‘Cats Around the World’ event to be held in conjunction with the 25th Miss Tourism International World Final 2022/2023 a success.
“The cat-themed activities will create the ripple effect and synergies for a sustainable tourism industry, besides being part of a series of events in welcoming the 50-60 beauty queens from around the world to Sarawak.
“I see the commitment and efforts put in by the leaders and the project team, in making Kuching, a tourist brand that is centred around cats, thus attracting a niche and targeted crowd from around the world,” he said during a press conference on the programme held at Farley Kuching Mall, today (Oct 12).
In regard to the cat-themed event, about 50 to 60 cats are expected to take part in the competition this November.
Apart from promoting Kuching as the city of cats,the event is also part of promotional activities for the beauty pageant.
Organized by YAST Group and D’Touch International, the event will take place at Farley Kuching Mall, which is also the official partner for the event on Nov 19 – 20.
‘Cats Around The World’ is one of the subsidiary activities prior to the grand finale of Miss Tourism International World Final and will become an exciting annual event locally and abroad, said Esther Law, founder and chairlady of YAST Group.
“From my understanding, there are millions of cat lovers around the world and there’s usually a huge following.
“Through this event, too, it will create a ripple effect and make this event get known worldwide,” she said.
The 25th Miss Tourism International World Final 2022/2023 will be held over 18 days from Nov 11 to 28. The grand finale will take place on Nov 25.
Also present during the press conference was Director of Farley Kuching Mall, Eijing Lau.
