KUCHING: Catherine Gabriel Lee, 19, of Bidayuh-Chinese parentage was crowned as Sarawak Ethnic Queen in the first ever competition held at Century Hotel here on Saturday night. She defeated seven other finalists to bring home RM3,000 and other prizes.

With her victory, Catherine automatically becomes an ambassador for the Go Go Green Association this year.The second place was won by Michelle Gromeko, 27, who took home RM2,000 and other prizes. Third was Oaisis Norun Favian, 21, who received RM1,000 and other prizes. Oaisis was also chosen as the winner of the Popular Queen Category.

A Lun Bawang girl, Joedie Vieenieeda Josly, 23, was chosen as the winner of the Best Custom Category as well as the Queen of Art, Culture and Heritage. Meanwhile, Fiorenzie Dayang Jacob, who has Kenyah-Berawan parentage, was chosen as the winner of the Fotogenic Queen Category while Trisha Camilla Joe, 23, was the winner of the Compatibility Category.

The Best Walking Style Category was won by Iban girl, Viviana Lin Wiston, 19, while the Queen Talent Category was won by Asnida Roslan, 20, who had Bugis-Malay parentage. The winners of each category received RM200.

The prizes were presented by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Secretary General, Milton Foo. E a r l i e r , G o G o G r e e n Association President, Nancy Chew explained that the association aimed to make the state plastic free. At the event,Batu Kitang State Assemblyman, Cr. Lo Khere Chiang donated RM2,000 to the association.
