KUCHING: Local radio station Cats FM will conduct an internal investigation to identify the cause of the power outage at its building yesterday (July 16).

In a statement today (July 17), it said the investigation aims to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future.

“Cats FM experienced a major disruption in our broadcast due to a power failure at our building. The outage began at 9.16pm when smoke emitted from the main switchboard room, causing a blackout throughout the building.

“Firefighters from Petra Jaya station were immediately alerted, and upon inspection, they determined the building was safe and the situation was under control at 10.05pm,” the station said.

Aside from that, Sesco’s technical team conducted thorough checks to ensure there were no major technical faults or damages to the main circuits.

Cats FM stated that the shutdown affected the station’s operations, including broadcast, on-air and online services.

At 9.16am this morning, the station’s technical team managed to restore power and resume its broadcast but while broadcast resumed throughout the state, the incident affected its Kuching transmission.

“By 10am, our Gunung Serapi transmitter was able to send its signal throughout the south region, and the interruption was fully resolved.

“However, Cats FM’s programming was put on music automation mode during the shutdown while our technical team continued with repair and maintenance work,” the station said.
