MIRI: A 55 year-old construction worker was buried when the soil above caved in while he was working about three meters underground repairing a leaked water pipe on late Thursday evening.

The incident occurred near Lambir Rainforest at the Miri-Bintulu road around 5.30pm.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the deceased identified as Inggol Rebai was pronounced dead while receiving medical treatment at Miri hospital, one hour after the accident.

“He went into the hole to fix the water pipe after an excavator dug the area when suddenly a huge amount of earth collapsed and buried him alive,” said Lim.
